Spruha Virtual School is an online school for students from Grade 1 to Grade 10, offering a structured academic experience built on both the NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) and CBSE curriculum frameworks. Our curriculum is designed to give every child the academic rigour of a traditional school with the flexibility that modern families need.

At Spruha, we believe that every child is unique — with their own pace of learning, their own strengths, and their own vision of success. That is why our curriculum is not just about covering subjects. It is about building confident, curious, and capable learners who are prepared for higher education and real life.

Whether your child is a homeschooler in Bangalore, a student-athlete in Mumbai, a learner in a remote town, or a child who simply needs more flexibility than a traditional school allows — Spruha’s curriculum is built for them.

About NIOS

NIOS stands for the National Institute of Open Schooling — an autonomous organisation under India’s Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD). It is one of the largest open schooling systems in the world and provides a government-recognised curriculum and certification pathway for students across India.

The NIOS curriculum is specifically designed to be flexible, learner-centred, and accessible to all — making it the ideal academic framework for children who need an alternative to the rigid structure of traditional schooling. Unlike conventional boards, NIOS allows students to learn at their own pace, choose subjects based on their interests, and sit for examinations when they are ready.

Why Does NIOS Matter for Your Child?
  • NIOS certificates are recognised by all Indian universities, central and state boards, IITs, NITs, and medical colleges
  • Students with NIOS certifications are eligible for IIT-JEE, NEET, UPSC, and all major national competitive examinations
  • NIOS certificates hold the same value as CBSE and ICSE certificates for college admissions across India
  • The curriculum is approved by the Ministry of Education, Government of India
  • No rigid timetable — students can learn at their own pace and in their preferred environment
  • Wide range of subjects to choose from, giving students the freedom to pursue their interests
  • No upper age limit for enrolment — open to all learners
  • Students who have cleared Grade 8 may appear for Grade 10 examination under NIOS

About CBSE

What is the CBSE Curriculum?

CBSE stands for the Central Board of Secondary Education — India’s most widely followed national school board, governed by the Government of India. At Spruha, we offer the CBSE curriculum pathway for families who want the familiarity and recognition of a CBSE-aligned education, delivered through the flexibility of online schooling. This is ideal for students who may transfer back to a traditional CBSE school in the future, or who want a curriculum that aligns closely with mainstream national standards.

Why Choose the CBSE Pathway at Spruha?

  • Ideal for students who may transition to or from a traditional CBSE school
  • Curriculum aligned with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF)

NIOS or CBSE — Which Curriculum is Right for Your Child?

Both NIOS and CBSE are strong, government-recognised curriculum frameworks. The right choice depends on your child’s needs, learning style, and future plans. Here is a simple comparison to help you decide:

Choose NIOS if your child:
  • Needs a highly flexible learning schedule
  • Is a homeschooler, student-athlete, or frequent traveller
  • Wants to choose subjects based on personal interests
  • Learns better at their own pace rather than a fixed syllabus timeline
  • Is recovering from illness or has special learning needs
  • Wants the freedom to appear for exams when ready
  • Lives in a remote area or cannot attend a traditional school
Choose CBSE if your child:
  • Wants a curriculum aligned with mainstream national standards
  • May transfer to or from a traditional CBSE school
  • Prefers a structured, progressive academic framework
  • Is preparing for national competitive exams like JEE or NEET
  • Wants a curriculum widely recognised by international universities

An NIOS certificate holds the same academic value as a CBSE or ICSE certificate for college admissions across India. Students with NIOS certifications are eligible to apply to all central and state universities, IITs, NITs, and medical colleges. They can also appear for national competitive examinations including IIT-JEE, NEET, and UPSC.

Yes. The NIOS curriculum is fully recognised by all Indian universities, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), and all state and central boards. An NIOS pass certificate is treated on par with CBSE and ICSE for the purposes of higher education admissions.

Yes, homeschooling is legal in India. The Right to Education (RTE) Act does not mandate attendance at a government or affiliated school for every child. Families can legally educate their children at home or through recognised online schools that follow established curriculum frameworks such as NIOS or CBSE. Spruha Virtual School follows both these frameworks, making it a legally sound and educationally strong choice for homeschooling families.

The subjects offered depend on your child’s grade and chosen curriculum pathway. Unlike regular schools that follow a fixed academic calendar, rigid timetable, and standard syllabus for all students, NIOS offers flexibility in subject choice, pace of learning, and examination timing. There are no mandatory daily attendance requirements, making it ideal for children who need a more personalised approach to education. Spruha combines the flexibility of the NIOS framework with the structure and engagement of daily live classes and experienced teachers.
